How Do I Apply?

Visit or call a Head Start center today to schedule an appointment with one of our Family Advocates. Please bring the following documents with you to your appointment:   
 

  • Your child’s birth certificate;
  • Current picture ID;
  • Household income verification; and
  • Proof of residency.                   
Eligible for Head Start?

MCA Early Head Start and Head Start offers free services to families who reside in Mobile and Washington Counties and meet federal low-income guidelines. Families who receive public assistance or other benefits may also be eligible. Those who are not eligible for free services may qualify if there are special needs or foster children in the household.

2024 Income Guidelines

Mobile Community Action Head Start/Early Head Start is a high quality, comprehensive, child development SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM that serves over 900 children, ranging in age from  6 weeks to four-years-old in 14 locations in Mobile and Washington counties. Head Start/Early Head Start services include: health, dental, mental health, and nutrition services; family services, parent education and parent leadership opportunities; educational screenings and assessments, educational activities both in the classroom and outside; and services for children with disabilities.


Mobile Community Action, Inc., Head Start/Early Head Start has developed School Readiness Goals that ensure that:

  • Children possess skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for success in school and for later learning and life.
  • Parents and families are engaged in the long-term, lifelong success of their child.
  • Head Start/Early Head Start, schools, and families work together in transitioning the children to kindergarten.
